This is a painting I finished in 2020. The canvas size is 40" x 30" and the medium is acrylics. Matahi Drollet is riding this wave in Tahiti at Teahupoo (pronounced Cho-poo). Couple things that inspired me to want to reproduce this photo by Kenna Colburn in paint was the ferocity of this wave, and the fact that Matahi was 16 years old when he rode this mammoth.
The final step is adding the lacquer protective layer. This step also enhances the color and really brings the acrylics to life.
